<p>PURPOSE: A method for switching a wake-up mode of a portable terminal docked to an external device is provided to maintain a previous state of switching the portable terminal and the external device to a sleep mode when the sleep mode is switched to the wake-up mode. CONSTITUTION: An external device in a sleep mode senses key input(S110). If the key input is sensed, the external device is waken up(S120). A portable terminal senses a predetermined electric signal generated by the waken external device(S140).
