PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas sensor for hardly depriving heat of a gas detection element heated by a heater, etc., from its tip part, and a manufacturing method therefor.SOLUTION: A gas sensor 100 comprises: a first member 141 disposed, inside a main metal fitting 110, on an axial rear side relative to a packing powder 135 with a gas detection element 120 being inserted into a first insertion hole 141b of rectangular shape in cross section, and compressing the packing powder 135; and a second member 133 disposed, inside the main metal fitting 110, on an axial tip side relative to the packing powder 135 with the gas detection element 120 being inserted into a second insertion hole 133b of rectangular shape in cross section, and compressing the packing powder 135. A dimension B, among cross sectional dimensions of the first insertion hole 141b of the first member 141, which pertains to the thickness direction of the gas detection element 120 and a dimension C, among cross sectional dimensions of the second insertion hole 133b of the second member 133, which pertains to the thickness direction of the gas detection element 120 satisfy the relationship B<C. |
