The present invention relates to the field of communications systems. Disclosed are a method and an apparatus for reducing cell interference, which can solve a problem that mutual interference between multiple cells at a same carrier frequency is large when an old carrier type is configured for the multiple cells at the same carrier frequency, and improve communication quality. The method comprises: first acquiring a cell set corresponding to at least one carrier frequency on a network, and configuring, at a first carrier frequency, at least two carrier types for different cells in a cell set corresponding to the first carrier frequency, the first carrier frequency being one carrier frequency in the at least one carrier frequency.
