PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical film comprising a positive C-plate that can be easily produced and shows inverse dispersion characteristics, and to provide a production method of the optical film.SOLUTION: The optical film includes a laminate composed of a transparent substrate 2, a vertical alignment layer 3 formed on the transparent substrate 2, and an optical functional layer 4 made of a liquid crystal material that is solidified in a state aligned by alignment regulating force of the vertical alignment layer 3 and shows inverse dispersion characteristics. The optical functional layer 4 has a retardation (Re0(λ)) of 20 nm or less at a wavelength λ of 450 nm to 650 nm and at an incident angle of 0 degree, and a retardation (Re&thetas;(λ)) at an oblique incident angle &thetas; (&thetas;>0), which is larger than the retardation at an incident angle of 0 degree; and the retardation (Re&thetas;(λ)) increases with increase in the wavelength λ. |
