PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for treating pathologic cardiac hypertrophy, heart failure or myocardial infarction.SOLUTION: The invention provides a method for treating pathologic cardiac hypertrophy, heart failure or myocardial infarction in a subject of need, which comprises: (a) identifying a subject having cardiac hypertrophy, heart failure or myocardial infarction; and (b) inhibiting expression or activity of miR-499 or miR-208b in the heart cells of the subject. The inhibiting step comprises administering an inhibitor of miR-499 or miR-208b. In an embodiment, the miR-499 or miR-208b inhibitor is an antagomir, an antisense oligonucleotide, or an inhibitory RNA molecule. The antagomir or the antisense oligonucleotide is a polynucleotide comprising a sequence complementary to the sequence of mature miR-499 or miR-208b. |
