PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surgical stapling apparatus which achieves appropriate balance between anastomotic strength and the degree of hemostasis in sectioning tissue and/or in anastomosis.SOLUTION: A staple cartridge 118 for a surgical stapling apparatus comprises: a body portion having first and second walls; and a tissue contacting surface 121 having a horizontal plane extending through the tissue contacting surface, the horizontal plane being substantially transverse to a vertical axis extending through the body portion, where a point on the tissue contacting surface and a point on the horizontal plane define a gap therebetween, the gap varying as the point defining the gap dimension is moved transversely with respect to the vertical axis. |
