1. A hip prosthesis for insertion into a femur having a proximal end adjacent a hip joint, a distal end adjacent a knee joint, an anterior side, a posterior side, a medial side, a lateral side, and an intramedullary canal, the prosthesis comprising:
a stem having a proximal end, a distal end, and a longitudinal axis therebetween, the stem including an anterior locking surface and a posterior locking surface, the anterior and posterior locking surfaces each diverging from the stem axis proximally at an angle greater than 3 degrees, the stem including a shank portion extending distally from adjacent the anterior and posterior locking surfaces, the shank portion converging at an angle distally toward the stem axis; and a neck extending at an angle from the proximal end of the stem. |
