This technology pertains to a file generation device, a file generation method, a file reproduction device, and a file reproduction method that make it possible to make use of high dynamic range (HDR) images. HDR information specified by HDR specification information is acquired from a file in which a stream track containing HDR information comprising the following are stored: characteristics information that indicates HDR-image luminance characteristics, HDR images having higher dynamic ranges than standard (STD) images; and conversion information that indicates conversion rules for converting an STD image to an HDR image or vice versa. A target track containing the abovementioned HDR specification information, which specifies HDR information from among the HDR information in the abovementioned track to be applied to the target track, is also stored in the abovementioned file. This technology can be applied, for example, to the acquisition of HDR information to be applied to images, such as subtitles, stored in an MP4 file or the like. |
