Disclosed is a display apparatus. The display apparatus includes a screen having a first transparency during a first frame section and a second transparency during a second frame section, a light source unit configured to output an output light for detection of a distance to an external object, a light detector configured to detect a received light from the external object, and a processor configured to process a touch input based on the output light and the received light during the first frame section and to process a gesture input during the second frame section. The display apparatus is capable of sensing a touch input and a gesture input.
