PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain capacity shortage and storage reliability by excellently using a multi-value recording technology when necessary while preferentially using binary recording.SOLUTION: A recording device having a plurality of non-volatile memory cells that can record binary or N values (N is 3 or larger natural number) has: memory control means for operating to have the respective memory cells perform recording with binary or N values; and means which can move or duplicate data between the non-volatile memory cells and a volatile memory for temporary recording. All or a part of data in a binary memory area of the non-volatile memory is moved to the volatile memory. After the binary memory area housing the data is converted into an N value memory area, data of the volatile memory is rewritten to the non-volatile memory in the N value memory area. |
