<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a porous film having such excellent abrasion resistance as not to deteriorate battery characteristics and battery safety even when used as a battery separator, and to also provide an electrical insulation maintenance film, a separator for a non-aqueous electrolyte battery and an electrochemical element. <P>SOLUTION: The porous film comprises a porous base film containing at least a polyolefin and a coat formed on at least one surface of the base film. A surface hardness of the coat attached surface of the porous film by an indentation hardness test is≥50 MPa. The electrical insulation maintenance film is made of the porous film. The separator for a non-aqueous electrolyte battery is made of the electrical insulation maintenance film.
