Disclosed is a method for improving the quality of an image. The method for improving the quality of the image includes the steps of: detecting an area of interest in an input image; generating a color distribution map based on the brightness component and saturation component of image pixels included in a predetermined color in the detected area of interest; distinguishing a first area included in the predetermined color according to the color distribution map in the input image and a second area except for the first area in the input image; and changing a value of pixels in at least one area among the first area and the second area.
