The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for compensating photo quality of a photo printer capable of more easily and conveniently updating a photo quality compensating value with respect to a photo paper used in the photo printer to improve the photo quality. According to embodiments of the present specification, the method for compensating the photo quality of the photo printer comprises the steps of: detecting photo quality compensating information recorded in an information paper when the information paper in which the photo quality compensating information with respect to a photo paper is recorded, and the photo paper is inserted into the photo printer; detecting a photo quality compensating value corresponding to the detected photo quality compensating information from pre-stored photo quality compensating values; requesting a photo quality compensating value corresponding to the detected photo quality compensating information to an information providing terminal through a communication network when the photo quality compensating value corresponding to the detected photo quality compensating information does not exist in the pre-stored photo compensating values; and outputting the photo quality compensating value received from the information providing terminal according to the request to the photo printer.
