An embodiment of this invention relates to an ornamental automotive lighting system that can receive signals and change the illumination conditions as a result of the received signals. The lighting system can change hue, saturation, and brightness as a response to received signals. Another embodiment of this invention relates to a method of lighting an interior section of a vehicle, comprising acts of A) producing an illumination effect with a LED lighting device, and B) controlling the LED lighting device such that the illumination effect has at least one of a variable color over a range of colors including at least three different colors and a variable intensity over a range of intensities including at least three different intensities.
