Non-aqueous electrolyte for a metal-air battery comprising a dinitrile solvent and metal-air battery comprising said electrolyte

A non-aqueous electrolyte suitable for a metal-air battery is presented, comprising a dinitrile solvent and an alkali metal salt. The non-aqueous electrolyte of the invention shows stability during the oxygen reduction reaction as well as during oxygen evolution reaction. High degree of reversibility and cyclability is obtained with such electrolyte. Further provided is a metal-air-battery comprising
a) a metal anode,
b) an air cathode, and
c) a non-aqueous electrolyte according to the invention.
