<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device having excellent coloring/decoloring characteristics with a simpler configuration. <P>SOLUTION: A medium includes a solvent, a viologen derivative, and a supporting electrolyte and furthermore includes a least one of a ferrocene derivative, a hydroquinone derivative, a ferrocyanide ion salt, a naphthoquinone derivative, and a naphthohydroquinone derivative. The display device includes a pair of substrates, pixel electrodes formed on respective surfaces facing each other of the pair of substrates, and a medium layer interposed between the pair of substrate.
