PURPOSE:To perform the range-finding of the central part of a photographic screen by performing multipoint range-finding for an object in a static state and inhibiting the multipoint range-finding for the object in the dynamic state in order to shorten release time lag for the object in the dynamic state by the multipoint range-finding. CONSTITUTION:In this automatic focusing device, in accordance with operation prior to the release operation of switches SW1, SW2, information depending on the moving speed of the object along the optical axis direction of a photographic lens is outputted from a moving body detector 5. When a CPU 1 judges that the object is moved based on the information of the moving body detector 5 at the time of operating the switch, the ranging of a peripheral part in the photographic screen with a peripheral ranging part 4 is inhibited by an inhibiting part 3, the focus adjustment of the photographic lens is performed based on the output of a central range-finding part 2 range-finding the object of the central part in the photographic screen, when the CPU 1 judges that the object is in a static state, the focus adjustment of the photographic lens is performed based on the output of the peripheral range-finding part 4 and the central range- finding part 2. |
