<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact communication device having broadband characteristics and an antenna performing energy saving operation. <P>SOLUTION: Under control of a switching control unit, a mode switching unit allows switching between a first mode (broadband mode) and a second mode (power recovery mode). The first mode is a mode of expanding the band by coupling radiation of a plurality of antenna elements, e.g. two antenna elements.
