The system has a test circuit (62) comprising a controlled power supply, a controlled current sink and a current directing element. A return conductor (100a) a switching path is connected with a control input of the supply and the sink such that the supply or the sink is controllable by a current signal. A return conductor (100b) of another switching path is connected with the directing element. A test signal output of a connection module (26) is connected with the directing element to output a signal generated from the directing element as an outgoing test signal of a safety operator (22).
