In the present invention, there is disclosed a needle selection device arranged on a knitting machine for producing sock goods, wherein the invention is characterized in that swinging jacks (1) with butts (1b, 1c) are mounted along with sliding needles in the grooves of a needle cylinder wherein said swinging jacks (1) are alternately brought into engagement with the machine lock system. At the points of needle selection, the device comprises push buttons (7) for pressing the centers of the swinging jacks (1) radially to the needle cylinder. Within the level of movement of the swinging jack (1) butts (1b, 1c), there are arranged pole extensions (31, 32, 41, 42) of at least one electromagnet (3, 4) for generation of a magnetic field controlled by the machine electronic device. On each side of the level of movement of the swinging jack (1) butts (1b, 1c), there are arranged close to each pole extension (31, 32, 41, 42) of the electromagnet (3, 4) permanent magnets (51, 61, 35, 52, 62, 36). The pole extensions (31, 41) are situated next to the upper permanent magnets (51, 61, 35), while the pole extensions (32, 42) are situated next to the lower permanent magnets (52, 62, 36). A push button (7) with a shaped working edge is built in between the pole extensions (31, 32 and 41, 42). The electromagnet (3, 4) pole extensions (31, 32, 41, 42) are arranged at the point corresponding to the beginning of the push button (7) skew working edge (72, 73), which is greater than the width of the pole extension (31, 32, 41, 42).
