PURPOSE:To avoid the clogging of a nozzle and the lowering of printing quality by providing a capping means preventing the clogging of the nozzle to an ink jet cartridge itself to prevent a lowering in the function of the capping means. CONSTITUTION:A shutter 1 is opened at a point of time when a cartridge is mounted on a printer or immediately before printing is started. The shutter 1 is opened while the shutter supporting hole 3 of the shutter 1 is held by the opening and closing means provided to a printer main body. At the same time, the electrical connection means 6 of a head 5 is connected to the electric energy supply means on the side of the printer to obtain a printable state. When printing is completed, the opening and closing means provided to the printer main body is separated from the shutter supporting hole 3 of the shutter 1 and the shutter 1 is closed by the restoring force of a return spring 11 and a nozzle 14 is closed by a cap 12 and the adhesion of a paper powder or dust from the outside or the evaporation of the solvent in ink is prevented and the lowering of printing quality or clogging is prevented.
