A method and system for offline processing alert messages (AR) on a digital radio broadcast receiver is described. A digital radio broadcast signal is received at the digital radio broadcast receiver. AR receivers will constantly look for AR alerts at a periodic interval by monitoring the station information service (SIS) on Primary IBOC Data Service (PIDS) channel to maximize the battery life at the same time achieving a reasonable latency in receiving AR alerts. |

after acquisition of a broadcast signal transmitted in an in-band on-channel (IBOC) format, offline processing a segment of the broadcast signal to detect a component of an active radio (AR) message; offline processing a segment of the broadcast signal comprising extracting primary IBOC data service (PIDS) information from the broadcast signal; wherein the offline processing shortens time of acquisition of an active radio (AR) message to thereby optimize power consumption in a receiver based on processing during a low power mode in a receiver having at least two power modes. |
