摘要 A composite layup is formed on a tool and placed on a contoured part. The tool is contoured to substantially match the contour of the part. A set of location data is generated which represents the location of the part in space relative to the tool. An automated manipulator uses the location data to move the tool into proximity to the part and place the contoured layup on the part.

A method of forming a contoured layup and placing the contoured layup on an area of a contoured part, comprising; contouring a tool face of the tool to substantially match a first contour of the area of the contoured part; deflating a bladder attached to the tool; drawing a vacuum between a bag and the tool face so as draw the bag down onto the tool face and to substantially conform to the contour of the tool face, the bladder positioned between the bag and the tool face; forming the contoured layup on the flexible bag that covers the tool face and sealed to the tool; generating a set of location data representing the location of the part relative to the tool; using a manipulator and the location data to move the tool into proximity to the contoured part; compacting the contoured layup against the area of the contoured part by inflating a bladder smaller than the tool face while maintaining vacuum between the bag and the tool face; and further compacting the contoured layup against the area of the contoured part by inflating the flexible bag.
