PURPOSE:To provide a focus detector by which false focusing is prevented from being executed and high arithmetic accuracy can be obtained with respect to a fine pattern. CONSTITUTION:The focus detector consists of an image sensor 2 consisting of plural photoelectric conversion elements outputting signals corresponding to the intensity of luminous flux which is made incident on, a focus detection optical system 1 guiding the luminous flux of an object passed through a photographing lens 10 to the sensor 2, an object discrimination means 3b discriminating the state of the object pattern based on the signal outputted by the sensor 2 and a focus detection arithmetic means 3c detecting the focusing state of the lens 10 based on the signal outputted by the sensor 2. By the arithmetic means 3c, first calculation that the focusing state of the lens 10 is detected by data obtained by executing first filter processing with respect to the signal outputted by the sensor 2 or second calculation that the focusing state of the lens 10 is detected by data obtained by executing second filter processing with respect to the signal is selected based on the discriminated result of the discrimination means 3b. |
