The transition metal complex is represented by formula (1):; wherein M1 represents a transition metal atom of Group 4 of the Periodic Table of the Elements; Ar1 is an aryl group represented by formula (2), Ar2 is an aryl group represented by formula (3) and Ar3 is an aryl group represented by formula (4) (not all of the three aryl groups Ar1, Ar2 and Ar3 are the same at the same time), ; Wherein each of the X and R groups represents hydrogen or the like.

A transition metal complex represented by formula (1):wherein M1 represents a transition metal atom of Group 4 of the Periodic Table of the Elements;X1, X2, X3, R1, R2, R3 and R4 each independently represent a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, an alkyl group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms which may have a halogen atom as a substituent, an alkoxy group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms which may have a halogen atom as a substituent, an aryl group having 6 to 20 carbon atoms which may have a halogen atom as a substituent, an aryloxy group having 6 to 20 carbon atoms which may have a halogen atom as a substituent, an aralkyl group having 7 to 20 carbon atoms which may have a halogen atom as a substituent, an aralkyloxy group having 7 to 20 carbon atoms which may have a halogen atom as a substituent, a substituted silyl group represented by —Si(R20)3, wherein the three R20 moieties each independently represent a hydrogen atom, a hydrocarbyl group or a halogenated hydrocarbyl group, and the total number of the carbon atoms in the three R22 moieties is 1 to 20, or a disubstituted amino group represented by —N(R21)2, wherein the two R21 moieties each independently represent a hydrocarbyl group or a halogenated hydrocarbyl group, and the total number of the carbon atoms in the two R21 moieties is 2 to 20, or of R1, R2, R3 and R4, two groups bonded to two adjoining carbon atoms may be bonded to each other to form a ring together with the two carbon atoms to which the two groups are bonded; and Ar1 is an aryl group represented by formula (2), Ar2 is an aryl group represented by formula (3) and Ar3 is an aryl group represented by formula (4), wherein not all of the three aryl groups Ar41, Ar2 and Ar3 are the same at the same time,R5, R6, R7, R8, R9, R10, R11, R12, R13, R14, R15, R16, R17, R18 and R19 each independently represent a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, an alkyl group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms which may have a halogen atom as a substituent, an alkoxy group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms which may have a halogen atom as a substituent, an aryl group having 6 to 20 carbon atoms which may have a halogen atom as a substituent, an aryloxy group having 6 to 20 carbon atoms which may have a halogen atom as a substituent, an aralkyl group having 7 to 20 carbon atoms which may have a halogen atom as a substituent, an aralkyloxy group having 7 to 20 carbon atoms which may have a halogen atom as a substituent, a substituted silyl group represented by —Si(R20)3, wherein the three R20 moieties each independently represent a hydrogen atom, a hydrocarbyl group or a halogenated hydrocarbyl group, and the total number of the carbon atoms in the three R20 moieties is 1 to 20, or a disubstituted amino group represented by —N(R21)2, wherein the two R21 moieties each independently represent a hydrocarbyl group or a halogenated hydrocarbyl group, and the total number of the carbon atoms in the two R21 moieties is 2 to 20, or of R5, R6, R7, R8 and R9, two groups bonded to two adjoining carbon atoms may be bonded to each other to form a ring together with the two carbon atoms to which the two groups are bonded, of R10, R11, R12, R13, R14, two groups bonded to two adjoining carbon atoms may be bonded to each other to form a ring together with the two carbon atoms to which the two groups are bonded, and of R15, R16, R17, R18 and R19, two groups bonded to two adjoining carbon atoms may be bonded to each other to form a ring together with the two carbon atoms to which the two groups are bonded.
