PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cooling device of an internal combustion engine and a cooling method of an internal combustion engine which can achieve improvement in fuel economy.SOLUTION: A cylinder is cooled by flowing cooling water supplied by a circulation pump 23, into a head cooling flow passage 13 and a block cooling flow passage 14. A temperature of T/M (transmission) oil is raised by heat-exchanging the cooling water having passed through the cooling flow passages 13, 14 and the T/M oil by passing the cooling water through a first heat exchanger 20 and a second heat exchanger 21. Then, when a catalyst temperature Ts reaches a preset catalyst activation temperature Tth1 after a start of an engine, a compression ratio of the engine is changed from a first compression ratio being a compression ratio at a start to a second compression ratio which is higher than the first compression ratio. A fuel economy at an engine start can be thus improved. |
