<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering column and its manufacturing method in which strength can be secured while making thickness of a part of a hollow cylindrical steering column thin.SOLUTION: By applying drawing to a front end part of a cylindrical member 19 made of ferrous material, the inner diameter dimension of the front end part is made smaller than an inner diameter dimension of a part located at the inner diameter side of a part forming a rear end part of the body part 18 of the cylindrical member 19. And, the front end side part of the cylindrical member 19 is inserted into an insertion hole 23 opening to the outside surface 22 of a metal mold 21, and the front end side part is projected inside the metal mold 21. Supplying molten metal of light alloy metal into the metal mold 21, the body part 18 is formed. After taking out from the metal mold 21, cutting processing is applied to the inner periphery end of the front end part projecting to the radial direction inside of the cylindrical member 19 and the inner diameter side part of the body part 18, to make the inner diameter of at least the front end side part of the cylindrical member 19 equal to or more than the inner diameter of the body part 18.</p> |
