PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable power optical system which is bright and has excellent optical performance, an optical device having the variable power optical system, and a method for manufacturing the variable power optical system.SOLUTION: A variable power optical system ZL to be used in an optical device such as a camera 1, includes, in order from the object side: a first lens group G1 having positive refractive power; a second lens group G2 having negative refractive power; a third lens group G3 having positive refractive power; and a fourth lens group G4 having positive refractive power. When varying power from a wide angle end state to a telephoto end state, the distances between the lens groups are changed. The third lens group G3 includes: an intermediate group G3b comprising a positive lens, a negative lens, a negative lens, and a positive lens; and an image side group G3c having negative refractive power and arranged on the image plane side of the intermediate group G3b. When focusing, the position of the intermediate group G3b is fixed with respect to the image plane, and the image side group G3c moves along the optical axis. |
