PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent moire, and prevent a photoreceptor from being worn at an end of a contact charging member.SOLUTION: A charging member is brought into pressure contact with a photoreceptor drum with a predetermined pressing force, and applies a charging bias to charge the photoreceptor drum. A gap can be formed so that electrostatic charges can be discharged in a longitudinal central part of a pressure-contact area, and cannot be discharged in a longitudinal end, when the charging bias is applied from the charging member in pressure contact with the photoreceptor drum with the pressing force.
