PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a public telephone system capable of implementing reduction in a cost and improvement of security.SOLUTION: A public telephone terminal 1 comprises: a plurality of devices for functioning as a call device, call control device, and charge device, respectively; and connection means which performs bus connection with each of the devices and communicates with a terminal accommodation device 2 by using a bus signal including a unique device identifier previously set for each device. The terminal accommodation device 2 comprises: first communication means for performing communication with the public telephone terminal 1 by using a protocol of the bus signal; second communication means for performing communication by using a protocol of telephone communication corresponding to a communication network; terminal control means which discriminates each device of the public telephone terminal on the basis of the device identifier, and controls each device of the public telephone terminal 1 through the first communication means; and communication control means for performing transmission/reception of data between the terminal control means and the communication network through the second communication means.
