PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus configured to prevent image quality degradation to be caused when resistance of a recording medium is different from that of plain paper.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus 1 forms an image on a recording medium 5, such as a silver foil film or a film label, different in resistance from plain paper. The silver foil film has a surface resistance of about 10-10&OHgr;, which is significantly lower than plain paper which has a surface resistance of about 10-10&OHgr;. The film label has a surface resistance of about 10&OHgr;-10&OHgr;, which is significantly higher than the plain paper which has a surface resistance of about 10-10&OHgr;. Resistance of the recording medium 5 is obtained directly by detection means or by determining the type of the recording medium 5. A control unit prevents image quality degradation by controlling resistance between a ground potential and discharge brushes 85, 86 in contact with the recording medium 5, according to the resistance of the recording medium 5. |
