PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet detection device and an image forming apparatus capable of detecting end positions of a sheet in the width direction with a high probability.SOLUTION: The sheet detection device and the image forming apparatus include a first light source 611, a second light source 62, a light amount detecting section 612, and a control section. The light amount detecting section 612 can respectively detect a reflected light reflected by a sheet P after radiated from the first light source 611 and the light amount of a transmitted light having been transmitted through the sheet P after radiated from the second light source 62 in each position in the width direction D2. The control section can detect the end positions of the sheet P in the width direction on the basis of the light amount of the reflected light and the light amount of the transmitted light detected by the light amount detecting section 612 when the first light source 611 and the second light source 62 are individually made to emit light. |
