PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a release agent having good performance without using a solvent.SOLUTION: A method for producing a release agent includes a reaction process where a heat-molten raw material (A) and a raw material (B) are reacted with each other in the presence of an aromatic carboxylic acid and a phenolic antioxidant. The raw material (A) comprises at least one of polyvinyl alcohols, and the raw material (B) comprises at least one of aliphatic isocyanate compounds having an aliphatic group having 8 or more carbon atoms. The release agent comprises a polymer obtained by reacting the heat-molten raw material (A) and the raw material (B) with each other in the presence of the aromatic carboxylic acid and the phenolic antioxidant.
