PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a narrow gap welding apparatus that can make a one-pass laminate height higher, perform stable welding with a broad range of proper parameters and furthermore perform penetration welding using a ceramic backing strip for a first layer so as to achieve improvement of work efficiency.SOLUTION: The narrow gap welding apparatus comprises a welding torch 3 that is inserted into a narrow gap Wb opened toward an upper portion between a pair of thick copper plates W and W and supplies a welding wire 2 while moving along the narrow gap Wb; and also comprises a bend portion 3b that inclines a tip portion 2a of the welding wire 2 supplied from the welding torch 3 rearward in the welding direction toward a vertical direction to generate an arc A between the thick copper plates W and W, and a turning unit 7 that drives the welding torch 3 to swing the tip portion 2a of the welding wire 2 inclined toward the vertical direction around the vertical axis. |
