A magnetorheological damper comprises a ferromagnetic cylinder (18), inside which a piston (17) joined to a piston rod (1) moves, forming two chambers (3, 6) interconnected by an outer annular duct (15) defined by a concentric cylinder (9) and two end caps (2, 10). The concentric cylinder (9), in turn, is formed by a series of alternating ferromagnetic rings (4) and diamagnetic rings (5), with their corresponding coils (7), enclosed inside a ferromagnetic sleeve (8). This design allows a wide range of damping forces to be obtained by application of successive radial magnetic fields to the magnetorheological fluid that circulates through the annular duct (15), these fields being confined by diamagnetic components in order to minimise losses, without any direct contact between the fluid and the electromagnets in order to increase service life and facilitate access to the latter for any maintenance purposes.
|
