The present invention relates to a rechargeable zinc-air flow battery comprising a tank configured to contain an aqueous solution of zinc in an alkaline metal hydroxide, a battery stack in fluid communication with the tank, said battery stack comprising a zinc electrode which comprises: (i) a support, said support comprises a mixture of carbon material and a polymer, and (ii) metallic zinc electrodeposited on the surface of the support; (iii) a cavity adapted to house the aqueous solution, (iv) a bifunctional air electrode comprising an oxygen reduction layer, an oxygen evolution layer and, optionally, a gas diffusion layer, characterized in that both the oxygen reduction layer and oxygen evolution layer comprise a nickel-based support; (v) a separator disposed between the air electrode and the zinc electrode, and (vi) a mechanism for allowing the circulation of the aqueous solution through the battery stack and the tank. |
