A method and system are described herein that employ a lost frame concealment technique for processing data frames received during transmission over a communications channel. The lost frame concealment technique involves determining whether a current data frame is a bad frame, performing source decoding on the current data frame with one or more parameters that are limited by a first set of one or more values if the current data frame is a bad frame, and performing source decoding on the current data frame with one or more parameters that are not limited if the current data frame is a good frame.

1. A lost frame concealment method for processing data frames received from transmission over a communications channel, the method comprising:
determining whether a current data frame comprises a bad frame or a good frame, a data frame comprising a bad frame when determined to be received with error or used for control purposes, and the data frame comprising a good frame when determined to be received without error and not used for control purposes; and performing source decoding on the current data frame with one or more parameters wherein:
if the current data frame comprises a bad frame, the one or more parameters are limited by a first set of one or more values; andif the current data frame comprises a good frame and a previous data frame comprises a bad frame, a condition of the communications channel is checked to determine whether to limit the one or more parameters.
