The present invention relates to an optical guide plate which can solve the unbalance of the brightness occurring on the light incidence surface of the optical guide plate and a side backlight unit including the optical guide plate. The backlight unit according to the present invention includes: the optical guide plate; and an LED light source which is arranged on a first inclination surface of a light incidence protrusion to emit light into the optical guide plate through the first inclination surface in a diagonal direction. The backlight unit can remove the shadow areas by making the light from the LED light source to come into the optical guide plate through the light incidence protrusion in the shape of a gear tooth in a diagonal direction to prevent the brightness level from decreasing while also preventing the unbalance of the brightness on the light incidence surface.
