PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an asbestos detoxification treatment method for waste slate.SOLUTION: An asbestos detoxification treatment method for waste slate includes the steps of: concentrating asbestos by feeding a hydrochloric acid solution to waste slate powder and thereby decomposing and removing limestone components in the waste slave powder; and carrying out a low-temperature heat treatment after mixing the concentrated asbestos and oxalic acid with each other. At this time, waste slate containing asbestos is preferably crushed and ground and the waste slave powder obtained by the crushing and grinding is formed more preferably to a size of 100-300 meshes. The asbestos having been detoxified contains recrystallized rhombohedral or amorphous magnesium oxalate.
