A distance detection apparatus for improving light reception performance is disclosed. The distance detection apparatus includes a light source to output light for detection of a distance to an external object, a scanner to output the output light by performing first direction scanning and second direction scanning, a light path separator to output the light from the scanner to an external scan region by reflecting the light and to transmit received light from an external, a light detector to convert the received light from the light path separator into an electric signal, and a processor to detect the distance to the external object in the external scan region based on an electric signal corresponding to the output light and an electric signal corresponding to the received light. A size of an opening of the light detector is greater than a size of an opening of the scanner.
