The present invention relates to an electronic device for driving a light emitting diode, which includes a switch (Ts) being adapted to switch a switch-mode power converter, and controlling means (CNTL) being adapted for controlling the switch (Ts) in response to a sensing value (Vs) indicative of a current of the switch-mode power converter and for controlling by the switch (Ts) the output voltage of the switched power converter and a current (Tout) through the light emitting diode.

1. A method for driving one or more light emitting diodes, the method comprising the steps of:
switching a switch-mode power converter to produce an output voltage across the one or more light emitting diodes; sensing a current provided by the switch-mode power converter; providing a variable input signal to generate a reference voltage, that varies as a function of the output voltage; and controlling the step of switching, in response to a comparison of the sensed current and the reference voltage.
