PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide methods of producing iodine-containing compounds used as diagnostic compositions as contrast agents in diagnostic imaging and in particular in X-ray imaging.SOLUTION: A method of producing a compound represented by formula (I) defined by R-N(CHO)-X-N(R3)-R includes reacting a compound of formula (IVa) defined by R-NH(CHO) and a compound of formula (IVb) defined by R-NH(R3) with a reactive linker group of formula (V) defined by Y-X'-Y'. (X is a C3-C8 alkylene moiety optionally with one or two CH2 replaced by O, S or NR1 group; R3 is H or an acyl functional group; each R independently is identical or different and represents a triiodinated phenyl group further substituted by two R2 groups; Y and Y' are readily eliminatable atoms or groups; and X' is said X, an epoxide or the like.) |
