摘要 <p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine control device for an internal combustion engine, which can increase the temperature of a catalyst by actualizing the temperature rise of exhaust gas without increasing particulate matters, when the temperature of the catalyst is lower than an activating temperature.SOLUTION: When the temperature of a catalyst device 63 is lower than a predetermined temperature threshold value, an engine ECU 81 performs sub fuel injection at least twice to inject a smaller amount of fuel than main fuel injection after starting the combustion (main combustion) of the fuel injected with the main fuel injection by a fuel injection valve 34 but in the first half of an expansion stroke. Furthermore, the engine ECU 81 performs additional fuel injection to inject a greater amount of fuel than the individual sub fuel injection in the second half of the expansion stroke but before opening an exhaust valve.</p>
