PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture electronic devices composed of organic-based transistors, by providing: organic compounds that provide at least one of (i) enhanced solubility in one or more organic solvents, (ii) enhanced stability when incorporated into a specific organic solvent, and (iii) enhanced performance when incorporated into an electronic device as a semiconductor layer as measured, for example, by the charge carrier mobility value of the electronic device; and substrates and devices containing the compounds.SOLUTION: There are provided silylethynyl pentacene compounds having the chemical structure represented in the figure.
