[Class 100 (iv)] Ribbon-feed mechanism comprises a feed-roller in connection with a pulley which engages the carriage draw-band. In the mechanism shown in Figs. 1 and 2, a hectograph or like ribbon D, delivered from a spool 12, passes over a guide-roller 15, through the vibrator 16, around a guide-roller 17 and a feed-roller F, and on to a winding-roller G. The carriage draw-band 5, passing from the spring drum 4 is led over a rubber-coated pulley H and a guide-roller 54, the pulley being loosely mounted on a shaft 30 which is geared to the shaft 32 of the feedroller F, and a shaft 37 having a slip-connection with the winding-roller G. The pulley is provided with a spring-pawl 58 co-operating with a ratchet-whee 60 having a pin 61 which engages a slot in a collar 63 on the shaft 30. During letter-spacing movement of the carriage B, the pawl 58 drives the shaft 30, the feed-roller F feeds a length of ribbon equal to the carriage movement, and the length is wound tightly on the winding-roller. During carriage-return, the pawl 58 slips, and the ribbon is not fed. To suspend ribbon-feed during tabulating runs of the carriage, the tabulating-key is connected to a rock-arm having a pin 66 for displacing axially the ratchet-wheel, and thereby disengaging the pawl. |
