PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a damper using an annular elastic member which can make the annular elastic member arranged between a cylinder and a shaft stably function, and also can make the annular elastic member surely exhibit attenuation performance.SOLUTION: A damper 1 has a plurality of annular elastic members 4 which are arranged between a cylinder and a shaft 3 which is slidably inserted into the cylinder, receive compression actions from both the inside of a radial direction and the outside of the radial direction at the shaft and the cylinder, and are made to pressure-contact with an external face 3a of the shaft and an internal face 2a of the cylinder. An inside diameter dimension of the annular elastic member and an outside diameter dimension of the shaft in which the annular elastic member pressure-contacts with the external face are set so that a tensile force for generating tensile stress along the circumferential direction is added to the annular elastic member, and slits 5 which allow the deformation of the annular elastic member which receives the compression action are formed at the cylinder in which the annular elastic member pressure-contacts with the internal face.
