METHODS FOR DUST CONTROL ON SALINE DRY LAKEBEDS USING MINIMAL WATER RESOURCES

A brine membrane method for controlling dust on a saline lakebed is disclosed comprising the steps of creating or locating an existing wetting basin, depositing precipitated salts in the basin, and depositing a brine over the salts to form a brine membrane.

1. A method of dust control on a saline dry lakebed with at least one wetting basin comprising the steps of:
measuring lakebed infiltration rates within the at least one wetting basin to confirm that the infiltration rate is below two inches infiltration per year, thus, suitable for creating and maintaining a brine membrane; creating one or more inner berms on the at least one wetting basin to minimize the depth of the brine necessary for treatment; and applying a brine solution to the at least one wetting basin having average weight percentages for soluble constituents of: between 15% and 65% Na2CO3, between 1% and 40% NaHCO3, between 2% and 70% NaCl, and between 5% and 70% Na2SO4.
