　Provided is an antimicrobial agent which contains chlorine dioxide and which has a large capacity to absorb or hold generated water, which discharges chlorine dioxide for a long period of time, and for which it is possible to ascertain to some extent the endpoint of vaporization of chlorine dioxide. Also provided is the antimicrobial agent housed in a bag, or the antimicrobial agent formed in sheet-form. This antimicrobial agent is made from a water-absorbing resin which contains chlorine dioxide and which has absorbed generated water. Said water-absorbing resin is treated with hydrophobic microparticles to obtain an antimicrobial agent (a) having an average particle diameter of 0.1-3mm. Another embodiment is an antimicrobial agent in a bag (1), containing the antimicrobial agent (a) and formed of an impermeable material and being provided with discharge holes for discharging chlorine dioxide and moisture into the atmosphere. Another embodiment is a sheet-form antimicrobial agent obtained by housing the antimicrobial agent in a flat container formed so as to have a semipermeable membrane on at least one side thereof.
