The method of calibrating a tool 100, such as an electronic torque wrench, includes coupling the tool to a calibration fixture 200 and applying an amount of torque by the tool. The amount of torque is measured by the tool, thereby creating a peak tool measured value. The amount of torque is also measured by the calibration fixture, thereby creating a peak calibration measured value. The tool applies a calibration factor to the peak tool measured value after the torque is released, thereby creating a calibration measurement. An adjusted calibration factor is generated by the tool, causing the calibration measurement to match the peak calibration measured value. A tool includes a drive head to apply torque, a handle, a torque sensor, a processor to hold a peak measured torque value based on a calibration factor, a display and a user input interface. A user may adjust the peak measured torque value to match a peak applied torque value displayed on a calibration fixture. A calibration fixture includes a torque sensor, a processor to hold a peak applied torque value, a display and a user input interface in communication with the processor to allow a user to input a calibration torque. |
