In a motor vehicle, a deformation member for energy absorption comprises a tubular section (5) made of a fibre composite of C or glass fibres and aramid fibres. The tubular section is positioned adjacent to a component (7) having concave channel (11) which causes the section to be turned round, thus absorbing energy. The free end of the tube can be turned successively, so that the turned over sections overlap each other. Pref. the wall thickness of the tubular section reduces at its free end, partic. by tapering towards the concave channel. A fixing flange may be formed on the hollow channel component.
